Mediscs wins Oscar for Innovation

The company, set up at the end of 2004, has been awarded the prize for Tooal-Pay, its secure online payments system.

It is a distinction that vindicates the company’s development choices. Mediscs, with offices at the Airport Business Park in Pérols, has just won the 2009 Innovative Payment Oscars. This award pays hommage to the work of the company’s twenty staff, led by Bernard Delbourg, in the « endlessly fruitful field of electronic payment ». An I.T. security company, Mediscs won the prize for its Tooal-Pay product, designed to ensure entirely secure online payments. « We develop program and application solutions for all types of mobile devices such as the standard USB key, the CD card or the mobile, for strong authentication, proven electronic signature, with electronic certificates, and 3D secure payment », explains Bernard Delbourg .

The perfected concept is simple. It enables all internet users, equipped with an ordinary USB key for example, or a CD card, to access their bank account or to shop online with complete security. « The user has a USB key, either provider by his or her bank, or just a standard model that you can buy anywhere. Access to the account is fully automated » adds Bernard Delbourg, who insists on the "three-in-one" nature of his innovation. An authentication for access to your bank account via the electronic certificate, electronic signing of contracts, for loans, insurance etc., online payment in 3D Secure, obligatory since October 1st of last year. »

With this tool, Mediscs intends to pursue its « mass market » strategy, to work with big groups and large-scale volumes. The recent entry into its capital, with a 24,99% stake, the Bred Banque populaire group answers this objective.

« Thanks to this partnership, we are in the process of developing our solution for one of its subsidiaries, IP@B, for a first 500 000 banking customers, explains the CEO. The company is also working on a large-scale European project to make the mobile phone into an identification and payment tool, of which the application is similar to that of the USB key or CD card. « The project has a real European dimension, because we have Spanish and Norwegian partners. »

After running as a start-up company since its creation, focussing on research and developement, Mediscs is changing up a gear today. Its turnover of 1 M €, should reach 4 à 5 M € by the end of the year, according to forecasts. Its staff should, by the same time increase to around thirty people. Finally, the company, of which the capital is 213 300 €, is valued today, according to Bernard Delbourg, at « around ten million Euros ». With regard to its future development, its priority is international growth.
