A few years ago, the words : strong authentication, electronic signature, 3D Secure payment meant very little to people. But since, the rapid growth of Internet fraud has made specialist companies seek ever-more effective means to counter hackers. Internet, a new Eldorado for banking fraudsters, each more ingenious than the last, who , in the space of a few years, have developed such methods as phishing, pharming, the man in the middle etc., to steal remotely from unsuspecting « internet citizens » who are simply enjoying shopping online. But, I’ll take this opportunity to reinforce the definitions of two distinct concepts : Identification and authentication.
Identification is a declaration : "I say who I am or who I claim to be". Authentication consists in establishing proof of this information. For strong authentication, the electronic certificate is the best way to ensure perfect security.
